Welcome to Laughton en le Morthen Parish Council which serves the villages of Brookhouse, Carr and Slade Hooton along with the hamlet of Newhall.

The parish is within South Yorkshire and is part of the area of Rotherham Borough Council. It is 7 miles from Rotherham, 7 miles from Worksop and 14 miles from Sheffield and Doncaster.

Laughton en le Morthen is 130 metres above sea level and from its western edge behind the church one can enjoy unrivalled views towards Sheffield and beyond to the Pennines.

The main village of the parish is Laughton en le Morthen which is generally known as Laughton. There has been a settlement in Laughton for over a thousand years and the village also boasts the earthworks of an earth and timber Motte and Bailey Castle. The church aided school has the oldest school room in South Yorkshire.

The Parish Council was formed in 1994 after a decision was taken by the Boundaries Commission as a result of a public consultation process started in 1986 when parishioners requested the formation of their own parish.

Meetings of the council normally take place on the second Wednesday of the month in the Laughton Village Hall on Firbeck Avenue. The meetings start at 7pm and welcome any parishioners to attend. Parish councils are the first tier of government. This Parish Council is not politically aligned to any of the major political parties.

The Parish Council consists of 7 voluntary councillors who are elected to serve for a four year term of office. The Parish Councillors determine and set policies for the social, cultural, welfare and environmental needs of Parish residents and they employ a clerk to implement the various policies.
